Historians believe that the city's name was derived from “Mount Royal”, the three-headed hill found at its heart. Referred to as "the mountain" by locals, this 233 metre summit provided me with an excellent view of the city and a chance to relax while appreciating the beauty of Montreal from afar. From the top I was able to recognise the Rivière des Prairies and the St. Laurence River that encircle Montreal, the largest island of the Hochelaga archipelago. In contrast to the downtown area skyscrapers, Mont Royal (a member of the Monteregian Hills) was silent and tranquil.
